Echinacea is a group of flowering plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae), native to North America. They’re commonly known as coneflowers because of their large, raised central cone.

The most well-known species include:

• Echinacea purpurea (Purple coneflower)

• Echinacea angustifolia

• Echinacea pallida

• Flowers: Large, daisy-like blooms with pink, purple, or white petals surrounding a spiky orange-brown cone

• Height: Typically 2–5 feet (60–150 cm)

• Leaves: Dark green, rough-textured

• Bloom time: Early summer through fall

They’re very attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
